You never know what's in your mother's attic

All three of our girls received a doll quilt from my mother for Christmas. This was extra special when everyone realized that grandma had hand made them.

It wasn't until she brought out a picture album that I realized that the fabrics were all from dresses she had made me when I was in high school. I can still hear that 80s music.

Adventure around our Christmas tree

As we decorate our tree each year we can relive some of our adventures through our ornaments.  We like to collect ornaments from the different places that we have been or other people have visited.  We also save ones that we have made or have been given to us.

These name ornaments are a tradition on
the Sullivan side of the family.  Linda's ornament is over 35 years old!

Santa on a dolphin from Hilton Head Island.
Picked up at a store while I waited for Dave to come and fix my flat tire.
Brought back from Germany by Dave's brother.
Saved from Dave's Grandma's ornament collection

This was a gift from Dave's first neighbor when he moved to Elkhart in 1995.

The girls received this chinese ornament from their director when they were in a play about Hudson Taylor.

Homemade ornaments the girls have made throughout the years.

This is a little doll from the island of St. Croix where we celebrated Grandma's 60th birthday.

Meet Me at the Manger

This year at our church we did a musical called Meet Me at the Manger.  Amy did the opening monologue and Sarah was a wise guy/gal.  (Sarah wore a purple robe.)
The story is about a man named Herod who owns a department store, who thinks Christmas is all about the money he gets from shoppers.  One of his workers, Miss O'Reilly, invites the children's choir from St. Mark Missionary Church to sing in his store. AND HE KICKED THEM OUT!  So they went to the Lighthouse Mission.  Mr. Herod comes to the Mission to bring Miss O'Reilly back to the store and he leaves his briefcase.  When he comes back learns what Christmas is all about from Miss O'Reilly, because they decorated his mother's house.  Then he gives toys to all the kids that come to the mission.

Operation Christmas

This year we did a project called Operation Christmas Child.  How it works is you take a shoebox and pack it with presents for a girl or a boy according to their age.  Then Samaritian Purse sends it to a child that probably wouldn't get a present that year.

First we went to Walmart and bought toys, school supplies and toothbrushes, toothpaste and t-shirts.  Then we wrapped the shoebox and filled it with the stuff.  We wrote letters and sent a picture of ourselves.  Maybe someone will send us a letter back.   Then we took them to Harris Prairie Church and dropped them off.  They will pack the shoeboxes in bigger boxes and send them to North Carolina.  From there they will go somewhere in the world.

Yo Tengo Gozo

We are learning Spanish on Monday nights and here is a song we have improvised. We used a special effect to make this! Our new macbook allows us to make all kinds of videos.
